Main Members

Main Members are institutions with ongoing sustained research involvement in the ECOG-ACRIN Cancer Research Group (ECOG-ACRIN). They retain membership over multiple years, provided that they remain in good standing. This entails passing an annual institutional evaluation conducted by staff and members of the Principal Investigator Committee, and complying with a formal audit and quality control process.

Recognizing that a rapid pace of patient enrollment is critical to the success of clinical trials, ECOG-ACRIN’s Main Member classification focuses on academic and community centers and programs with the capability to enroll significant numbers of patients in trials.

Main Members fall into two categories. Read below to learn more.

Standing Members

These are institutions that provide scientific and administrative leadership to ECOG-ACRIN and participate in studies across the Group’s entire research portfolio. They can be a cancer center, university medical center, health system, community hospital, or community-based program sponsored by the National Cancer Institute (NCI). Community-based programs are known as NCI Community Oncology Research Programs (NCORPs) and Minority/Underserved NCORPs.

Requirements and Benefits:

  • For enrollment of patients into clinical trials, assign at least 25 accrual credits per year to ECOG-ACRIN
  • Contribute significantly to the governance and leadership of the Group

Scientific Members

These are institutions that provide scientific and administrative leadership to ECOG-ACRIN and participate in selected Group studies that align with their scientific interests. They can be a cancer center, university medical center, or health system that makes basic, translational, and/or clinical science contributions to ECOG-ACRIN. The Group defines this membership status more by scientific contribution than patient trial enrollment metrics. The Group recognizes that many scientists do not treat patients in the clinical setting but can contribute scientific ideas and provide specialized research expertise.

Requirements and Benefits:

  • For enrollment of patients into clinical trials, assign at least 10 accrual credits per year to ECOG-ACRIN
  • Contribute significantly to the governance and leadership of the Group

Important Note

With ECOG-ACRIN’s flexible membership structure, Main Members may hold a grant from the National Cancer Institute as a Lead Academic Participating Site (LAPS); however, this is NOT a membership requirement. Visit the NCI website to learn more about LAPS.
