The latest findings from the TAILORx trial for women with early breast cancer show that poor social and physical well-being, along with co-morbid depression, were significant risk factors for premature discontinuation of hormone therapy, as reported by trial participants. The lead author, Betina Yanez, PhD (Northwestern University), discusses the study and its relevance.
“These findings indicate that there is a need to develop more nuanced, predictive models to better understand disparities in breast cancer,” Yanez said. “Some social determinants of health are modifiable, some are not; and how we address select social determinants of health can be a health policy matter.”
