Cancer Population Science Program
The Cancer Population Science Program brings together researchers working in the ECOG-ACRIN Cancer Research Group to improve access to clinical trials and strengthen understanding of cancer care and outcomes across populations. They examine how age, social circumstances, geography, community settings, and other factors influence participation in cancer research and health outcomes.
This program spans four areas:
- The Clinical Trial Support Committee examines how social and economic circumstances affect trial participation and outcomes, ways to address barriers to participation, and the research needs of adolescents and young adults
- The Geriatric Oncology Committee focuses on the needs of older adults with cancer and how aging, overall health, and daily functioning influence treatment decisions and outcomes
- The Real World Data Committee examines ways to use information collected during routine care, such as medical records, to understand how cancer treatments work across different patient populations and clinical settings
- The Community Cancer Committee supports community-based research sites and the patients they serve by helping ensure that new ECOG-ACRIN trials are feasible in community settings and can meet enrollment goals, bringing attention to barriers to trial access, and identifying ways to expand access to trials close to where patients live
