Cancer Interception Program

The Cancer Interception Program supports research in cancer prevention, screening, and surveillance. Cancer prevention seeks to reduce the likelihood of developing cancer, while interception focuses on interrupting biological changes before they lead to invasive cancer. Screening and surveillance can help identify precancerous changes and monitor people at increased risk, creating opportunities to intervene.

The program brings together expertise in the ECOG-ACRIN Cancer Research Group to advance strategies for reducing cancer risk, stopping precancerous changes from progressing, and preventing new cancers in people previously treated for cancer. This work aligns with the prevention and interception research goals of the National Cancer Institute’s Division of Cancer Prevention.
