Funding and Collaborations
The ECOG-ACRIN Cancer Research Group (ECOG-ACRIN) receives research support primarily from the National Cancer Institute (NCI), part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The ECOG-ACRIN Medical Research Foundation serves as the official business entity for ECOG-ACRIN.
NCI National Clinical Trials Network
ECOG-ACRIN is a vibrant component of the NCI's National Clinical Trials Network (NCTN). ECOG-ACRIN embraces the goals and spirit of the NCTN to conduct science-driven, practice-changing clinical trials to improve the lives of adults with cancer and is further poised to extend these trials to the adolescent and young adult (AYA) population.
ECOG-ACRIN contributes unique expertise across the NCTN. The successful NCI-MATCH precision medicine trial exemplifies ECOG-ACRIN's strengths to conduct biomarker-driven studies at the national level, with the enthusiastic participation of the sister NCTN groups. ECOG-ACRIN also provides the NCTN with a strong Mentorship Program to nourish the next generation of investigators. NCTN research is primarily in our Therapeutic Studies Program and Biomarker Sciences Program.
The NCTN maximizes the impact of clinical trials through participating network groups. In addition to ECOG-ACRIN, these network groups are the Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology, Canadian Cancer Trials Group, Children's Oncology Group, NRG Oncology, and SWOG Cancer Research Network. ECOG-ACRIN is committed to working as a partner alongside our sister NCTN organizations.
NCI Community Oncology Research Program
One of ECOG-ACRIN's research aims is to reduce the burden of cancer on individuals and society. We do this through clinical trials that seek better ways to prevent cancer or detect it earlier. Other trials look at ways to manage or control cancer when it occurs in people. The grant from the NCI Community Oncology Research Program (NCORP) helps ECOG-ACRIN bring clinical trials into local communities where most people receive their care. This research is primarily in our Cancer Control and Outcomes Program.
Additional Funding and Collaborations
ECOG-ACRIN coordinates closely with several other NIH-sponsored programs and initiatives. The group also pursues research through philanthropy and collaborations with other government agencies, non-profit foundations, the pharmaceutical and biotech industries, and other private sector organizations.
