The ECOG-ACRIN Fall 2012 Group Meeting, which was held November 9-11, 2012 in Hollywood, FL, had 775 attendees—a 26% increase over the 613 attendees who participated in the Fall 2011 meeting. Nearly 70 committee meetings and education sessions convened over the 3-day period and were attended by member researchers and advocates affiliated with one or both of the founding groups. Although these were “members only” meetings, the General Session and reception on Saturday evening were open to industry and other interested external representatives.

Highlights from the meeting include the following:

  • Bryan P. Schneider, MD, recipient of the Young Investigator Award in 2012, gave the keynote presentation in the General Session: “Breast Cancer Genomics and Pharmacogenomics: Making it Personal”.
  • Winners were announced in the General Session for the awards of distinction for presentations given at the ECOG-ACRIN Young Investigator Symposium: Stefan K. Barta, MD, in the clinical research category, and Mark E. Burkard, MD, PhD, in the translational research category. Learn more…
  • Jeanne M. Adler, RN, MPH, CCRP, from the Cancer Therapy Evaluation Program at the National Cancer Institute, gave a presentation at the General Session on actions taken by the NCI to address consent form problems, including revising its template to achieve a more concise document that still accurately captures the required elements of informed consent.   • A new “meet and greet” session was hosted by PrECOG leaders to introduce ECOG-ACRIN members and industry representatives to its research, and highlight opportunities for collaboration. Learn more…
  • The education track included 19 sessions and a networking breakfast. Sessions covered a broad range of topics, as the new combined Group seeks to integrate the needs of its broadened base of imaging and clinical research professionals. Learn more…

The Spring 2013 ECOG-ACRIN Group Meeting will be held May 16-18, 2013 in Atlanta, GA. An important note: May meeting attendees are encouraged to note the new meeting format before making travel plans. The meeting will begin mid afternoon on Thursday and conclude mid afternoon on Saturday. This is a departure from the previous ECOG meeting format.
